The Karmann Ghia coupé had folding rear side windows since the year of manufacture in 1960, which could be opened by a few centimetres. To properly seal the glass against the vertical support, there is a rubber around the hinge. On most Ghia this rubber has lost its flexibility or is torn over the years, it can no longer fulfill its sealing function.
The notches through which the hinge blocks pass are not yet present in the model until 7/1971, use a sharp knife and keep the notches as small as possible.
The rubber used for the hinges on vehicles built from 8.1971 onwards is the same as the rubber used for the vertical windows on vehicles built up to 7.1959, i.e. the period when pop-out rear side windows were not factory-fitted.
