Our Volkswagens are full of screws, bolts, nuts and washers that are not all made for a particular model, but are used universally. These parts are recognizable by their part number starting with the "N" of the German word "Normteile", which means "standard parts". It may be a standard part, but that does not mean that it is still readily available today.
Below is a list of what these cylinder screws were used for and the total number of parts needed if you were to replace them all for each VW model.
Beetle
- windshield assembly in the upper rabbet from 8.1964, 2 pieces
- tank valve cable outside assembly 1971 (VIN 111 2428 099 ) to 7/1972, 1 piece
- hood lock 8.1966 to 7.1971, 3 pieces
- hood lock from 8.1971, 1 piece
- glove box holder sedan from 8.1968 (except 1303 ), 1 piece
- alternator ground cable or interference filter assembly, 1 piece
- fuel tank float or cover plate from 8.1961 (except 1302 and 1303 ), 5 pieces
Karmann Ghia
- inner fuel valve cable from 8.1968, 2 pieces
- mechanical fuel tank float, 5 pieces
- electric fuel tank float from 1973 (VIN 143 2621 ) from 1973 (VIN 143 2621 519 ), 5 pieces
- wiring terminal distributors, 2 pieces
- alternator ground cable or interference filter set, 1 piece
Split Bus
- side loading door lock, 2 pieces
Bay Window Bus
- hood lock, 1 piece
- vent window mounting in upper rabbet, 2 pieces
- headlight washer motor mounting, 1 piece
