The door windows of our Split Buses can be opened by a sliding system instead of rotating windows as was the case for younger Buses. Luxury was not important for a utility Bus at the time, reliability, simplicity and the lowest possible production price were the priority, so the sliding system was not an obstacle for the Volkswagen utility division.
When opening the side window, there are five fixed positions. The first position also serves as a lock in the closed position. The strip in which the door window lock engages is often painted in the same colour as the bodywork, the paint is damaged after several uses of the sliding window, the first signs of rust quickly become visible.
The strips mentioned here are made of stainless steel, a great improvement over the original, rust is a thing of the past.
