The length of the gearshift lever isn't for everyone. Many people would have liked Volkswagen to make the gearshift slightly longer. In a comfortable seated position, few people don't need to lean forward to shift gears.
Simply extending the shift lever by welding a piece in between won't work on most VW Buses, as the longer shift path will hit the driver's seat or bench. Thanks to the specific shape of this stainless-steel extension, there are no gearshift obstructions and shifting becomes much more relaxed.
Screw the supplied nut onto the place where the gear knob was mounted, then mount the extension and adjust it so that it doesn't touch anything when shifting, tighten the nut against the extension so that it's securely fixed and screw the gear knob onto the extension. In just a few minutes, shifting comfort will be considerably improved.
