This leaf spring reduces the transmission of vibrations from the engine to the gear lever to a minimum. The spring presses on one side on the gearshift rod support and on the other side on the transmission rod and was only used on Volkswagen Buses until 12.1957.
In many VW Buses this spring is no longer present and the owner doesn't even know it's there. Even for Volkswagen, it is a foreign part, in books published after 1960, this part is no longer mentioned although it is clearly mentioned in books until 1960.
If your gearshift lever vibrates with the engine uncomfortably, check for this spring.
