Our Volkswagens are full of screws, bolts, nuts and washers that are not all made for a particular model, but are used universally.
These parts are recognizable by their part number starting with the "N" of the German word "Normteile", which means "standard parts".
It may be a standard part, but that does not mean that it is still readily available today
Below is a list of the bolts used and the total number of parts needed if you want or need to replace them all for each VW model.
Beetle
- steering box on front axle from 1964 (VIN 6 050 837 ) except 1302 and 1303, 2 pieces
- kingpin assembly on strut 1302 and 1303 up to 7.1973, 6 pieces
Karmann Ghia
- steering box on front axle from 1964 (VIN 6 050 837 ), 2 pieces
Type 3
- steering box on front axle, 2 pieces
Vanagon
- stabilizer bracket on rear axle Kombi and Ambulance from 8.1985, 2 pieces
- mounting bracket for air conditioning, 2 pieces
- mounting bracket for 2nd alternator, 2 pieces
VW Thing
- steering gear on front axle, 2 pieces
