The front shock absorbers of the Volkswagen Beetle 1200-1300-1500 and of the Karmann Ghia after 8/1965 and all VW Thing construction years were mounted on top of the front axle with a mounting bracket which was screwed on the shock absorber and which also held the protective sleeve with rubbers.
When replacing the shock absorber with an oil filled shock absorber as it was originally the case, you have to transfer the mounting bracket, these are not supplied with these shock absorbers.
In most cases the rubbers are torn off, the protective cover is missing and the mount is stuck on the shock, be reasonable and order the mount immediately. It is delivered complete with rubbers, mounting hardware and dust cover.
Mounting : First mount the dust cover to the stop rubber, use glycerine and pull the lip of the rubber with a string in the dust cover, in the same way as you would mount a windshield rubber. Slide the whole assembly over the shock absorber and tighten the shock absorber into the metal mounting piece, finally push the stop rubber over the knob of the mounting piece again using glycerin. Use only glycerin as a lubricant and no other agents, there is a very high chance of the rubber being affected with alternative lubricants.
Note : This assembly kit is of very high quality, and 100% identical to the original. Not only in appearance it is identical, even more important are the rubber parts which have the correct rubber composition according to Volkswagen specifications.
